Henry (Ricky Ubeda), a quirkily ordinary young man in shorts and a pink hat, seems to be on the run from painful memories. He and his journal have come to a clearing where others have gathered to share their stories. The campfire setting, demarcated with lanterns, suggests a support group. The phrase “circle of grief” was my own silent articulation for this communal stopping ground.

Gerardo Mejia (also known as Rico Suave) is a rapper, singer, and actor who achieved the American Dream after moving to the United States from his native homeland of Ecuador. He worked for many years in the music industry, where he is best known for his hit song “Rico Suave”. Gerardo lived in Los Angeles, California with his wife Kathy and three children Bianca, Nadia and Jaden, but five years ago he answered God’s call into the ministry and relocated to Ashland, Kentucky. Now known as Pastor G, he is the head pastor at House of Grace on Greenup Avenue.
Homeless encampments are on the ballot in Arizona. Could California, other states follow?
And to mark holidays or other special occasions, they celebrate together. Last November, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, they held a “Transgiving” at Lover bar, a queer bar in San Juan that serves as “a safe space for everyone,” as a poster on one of its bright pink walls promises. Had they the collective funds to live together permanently, many of House of Grace’s members say they would do so. “We need funding.” But amid Puerto Rico’s ongoing economic crisis, the House’s daily bread is the lack thereof.

By the grace of God, we will produce a prophetic people, co-laboring in a unified and balanced pursuit of the Great Commission of our Lord, Jesus Christ. While targeting the multi-ethnic, multi-cultural Southern California Basin, we desire to effectively minister to people of diverse social, economic and ethnic backgrounds. We will unite them in Kingdom love and purpose by preaching the gospel of the Kingdom, coupled with the teaching of the “uncompromised” Word of God.

Peck, a prolific presence at New York City Ballet who choreographed dance sequences for Steven Spielberg’s 2021 film “West Side Story,” hugs tight to the inner journey. It’s the act of catharsis, the exorcising of emotional demons, that makes “Illinoise” so gripping. He has his dancers routinely break away from their clustered configurations to seize a confessional moment before reuniting in the embrace of the collective. The imagery conjures a supernatural patchwork of revenants and Superman.

Sometimes the feeling is fey; other times the literalization of song ideas flirts with corniness. But the intensity of the dancer’s relationship to the material speaks volumes. Other dancers hold illuminated orbs around Henry, reminding him of his spiritual presence. He is reluctant to spill his secrets, but it’s only a matter of time before he joins the others in unburdening his soul. “Illinoise,” a hallucinatory dance musical based on Sufjan Stevens’ 2005 concept album “Illinois,” offers a fitting end to a Broadway season that seemed happiest when operating beyond conventional assumptions and practices.
This common story is communicated in a dance vocabulary of determined strides overcoming invisible burdens. When moments of virtuosity explode, as happens when Byron Tittle unleashes a spectacular display of Olympian tap, the effect is a victory of spirit as much as it is of mortal flesh. If Henry’s story were elaborated in dialogue, it would have trouble escaping sentimentality. But it’s the universal pattern, the way Henry’s experience echoes our own, that transcends the handling of specific plot points. House of Grace will be an instrument to enable women to achieve their full potential and will support them in sharing the abundant love of God with others. Our team is committed to giving grace in an often graceless culture while helping to support individuals and families with dignity and respect.
The Grace of God and His healing presence is not something that is earned. Jesus didn’t come only for those who meet a certain standard, but for those who have broken the standard yet still choose to believe in Him. No matter what you’ve been through, what you have had done to you, or what you are going through, Jesus can handle it and Grace can deal with it. The message is, “you have not been disqualified for the miracle you’re believing God for because it is not your perfection that will bring it to pass. ” The conditions for your healing and deliverance have already been met by the cross of Jesus Christ, so fall back into the arms of Jesus and receive and rest in His finished work. What was intended to be a Place of Grace, where God’s goodness was available to all had become a place of merit, where God’s goodness was only available to the fastest or the quickest.
Jody and I embarked on this journey in the summer of 2016 when invited to a HOG Service on Saturday night hosted by Bikers for Christ. This is what drew us in; we wanted to be part of a church that serves others. Your favorite restaurants at The Grove are serving up seasonal and all-time favorites. Unbiased to social status, age, income, and faith, addiction is a relentless consumer of resources and easily robs victims of all they have.
